Optical Testing

Methods and Applications
Color Measurement
Color measurement can be performed using colorimeters or spectrophotometers under various standardized illumination or detector geometries. This yields either color values in the CIE Lab color space or spectral curves.
Applications
- Quality Control
- Quantification of color deviations
- Metamerism
- Verification of color fastness after environmental simulation tests
Gloss Measurement
Gloss measurement determines the directed component of a surface’s reflection. Various standardized measurement geometries are available for this measurement
(20°, 60°, and 90°) are available. The reflectometer value is referenced against a standard (black polished glass plate).
Applications
- Quality Control
- Determination of gloss level or gloss deviations after durability tests
Light Microscopy
Light microscopy enables the optical examination of small structures.
Application Area
- Failure Analysis
Laser Particle Size Measurement
Particles in a suspension scatter laser light. Based on the intensity distribution in the diffraction pattern, the size distribution can be calculated.
Applications
- Quality Control
- Particle Size Distribution
- Droplet size in emulsions
UV-Vis Spectroscopy
In molecular spectroscopy, absorption or scattering of incident light occurs. This is characteristic of specific molecular fragments. The recorded spectra show specific bands for certain molecular components, allowing for the identification of organic materials in particular.
Applications
- Analysis of organic components
- Polymer Characterization
- Failure Analysis
- Stains and Contaminants
- Analysis of Competitor Products
